Home appliance very often responsible for dry skin problems

In summer Californians have skin problems with heat rashes that at times develop into eczema. Fortunately air conditioners in most homes and office buildings make life more bearable during hot summer days and nights. The air conditioner is an appliance that few Californians could live without, but it is often a hidden cause of dry itchy skin.
In the winter months, the days are shorter and the temperature is a lot lower with huge variations in degrees Fahrenheit between daylight and darkness. Here too, Californians are fortunate and do not have to brave the elements except for short periods of time. Our cars have heaters and most homes can crank up the heat with a variety of appliances.
What most of us do not realize is that both cooling and heating have serious dehydrating effects, that very often result in dry, itchy skin. Last week was "Eczema Week" and the statistics that were revealed when doing the math is incredible as 17% of all Americans suffer from eczema. With the current count being just under 300 million, this equates to something in the region of 51 million people who suffer from eczema. That is not counting the average man in the street that just has dry itchy skin as a result of heating, cooling or some other cause like allergies, irritants or toxins.
One would assume that with the large variety of creams and lotions available on pharmacy and supermarket shelves, that a solution to these problems would be easy to find but that is not the case, for the statistics show that all these products are not reducing the numbers of sufferers.
